Some materials ask to be the centerpiece.
The brief for this project was simple: let the material lead. On a coastline where the light off the water changes by the hour, mother of pearl makes that easy — because it does the work itself.
Its iridescence isn’t a surface finish. It’s structural — microscopic layers of aragonite that bend and reflect light differently depending on the angle. What reads as blue-white from across the room shifts to pale rose or gold as you move, echoing the same shift happening on the water outside. The material is in constant conversation with the light around it.
