Borosilicate has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and roughly double the mechanical strength, which is why it is the standard specified for laboratory ware and premium lighting. In practice, this means the shade resists chipping at the rim, holds its optical clarity under repeated heat cycles, and maintains structural integrity over decades of use rather than the 5–10 year service life typical of pressed soda-lime shades.
The glass is rated to withstand a thermal differential of approximately 150°C without fracturing — meaning the fixture can be switched on immediately after a cold installation or in an unheated space without risk of stress-cracking. Impact resistance is tested to IK06 (a 0.5 kg impact from 40 cm), which covers accidental contact during cleaning or nearby activity. It is not designed to survive a direct drop from height, and we’re transparent about that: no blown glass, however dense, is a substitute for careful handling during installation.
Yes — every shade is mouth-blown by a single glassmaker in one continuous session, which is why no two pieces are perfectly identical. Wall thickness, bubble inclusions, and subtle tonal gradients vary within a controlled tolerance (±1.5mm on wall thickness, verified at three points per piece). For a single installation of multiple fixtures, we offer batch-matching on request, where pieces are selected from the same production run to minimize visible variation across a run of pendants.
All fixtures are rated for both incandescent and LED sources up to the stated wattage ceiling (printed on the fitting label), and are compatible with leading-edge (ELV) and trailing-edge (MLV) dimmers when paired with dimmable LED lamps of matching driver type. We recommend cross-referencing your dimmer’s compatibility list against the lamp manufacturer’s specification, since flicker or reduced dimming range is almost always a lamp/driver mismatch rather than a fixture limitation.
The ceiling canopy and included hardware are rated to 8 kg static load, roughly 3x the weight of the heaviest fixture in the collection, to account for the additional torque of multi-arm chandeliers.
